{my paris life}

I haven’t posted here in a long time so I am not sure if readers are checking in or not.  But, you may recall that I am living in Paris right now until just before Christmastime.  If you want to follow along I am keeping another blog that details my adventures and mishaps while I tackle this great city!

I, of course, have thought a lot about what I want my Parisian style aesthetic to be (and by a lot I mean constantly).  I have been very inspired by the current preppy trend (button up shirts, oxfords, and blazers) and am obsessed with the dichotomy of these conservative pieces and my love for all things bohemian.  A recent editorial on Shopbop called “Left Bank Beatnik” that was shot in Paris captures the look to a T!  Here are some of the other pics that have inspired me…

Despite my craving for blazers, comfy cardigans, and boots, fashion is fashion and the runways have been in full swing for spring at New York Fashion Week.  I would be a failure as a fashion blogger if I didn’t share my faves.  My aesthetic sensibilities seem to have an overarching theme of beautiful florals, pattern mixing, and easy layering.  I was also excited to see one of my favorite Shopbop models Zen walking the runway in the Peter Som show.  So cool!

Mike and I were in Minneapolis last weekend and on Sunday morning we meandered down to a coffee shop I had been wanting to try, took a trip to the local neighborhood farmer’s market, and made a stop at Road Runner Records.  Not my most exciting outfit ever, but it was perfect for the very slight chill in the morning air.  Also, not sure what is happening with my hair-do, let’s just call it bed-head.  I will post some more pictures from our weekend this week!

{summer lovin’}

Well, since I haven’t been around for much of the summer here on ye old blog, I thought I would share some photos from what has been one of my favorite summers in a long time. To recap a few of the highlights:

-We got to take care of our favorite feline Phoebe for about three weeks in June (try saying that three times fast).

-Mike and I went to see the unlikeliest of favorite bands, The Zac Brown Band, at Summerfest in Milwaukee.

-We celebrated the 50th wedding anniversary of Mike’s parents (I was most enthralled with her lovely little wedding dress).

-I spent a long weekend with my mom, brother, and brother’s girlfriend in Washington D.C. (which included numerous trips to our favorite cafe Le Pain Quotidien and a swim in our rooftop pool).

-Mike and I helped my mom move out of her condo and were treated to fresh Northfield Farmer’s Market goodies.

-My friend Cheri proposed a spontaneous trip to Concert on the Square at the Capitol (the highlight was, of course, the conversation with my dear friend).

-I styled an amazing photo shoot with the simply gorgeous Caroline Marks.

-And last, but most certainly not least, I celebrated the wedding of an old friend with all of my pals from college, some of whom I had not seen in ages and got to enjoy some lovely catching up time.  (Oh, and a post-wedding french toast breakfast for two at our hotel  was pretty nice as well).

-Okay one more thing (and a very important thing at that), I drank many a glass of Rosé to take the edge off of a brutally long stretch of 100 degree days.

Even though I had an awesome summer, I must admit I am ready for fall (and not just because I am going to Paris).  I love the switch in seasons when the cool weather finally edges into our lives and we start thinking about hunkering down the way that only Midwesterners do.  And, of course, there is the summer to fall fashion transition … I am guessing I am not the only one who is excited for sweaters, boots, and favorite scarves!  XO

I have obviously been spending a minute or two thinking about what I am going to bring to Paris.  My suitcases are only so big and I don’t want to haul a bunch of stuff over there that I am not going to wear.  So, I have been fine tuning my personal Parisian aesthetic and these are a few of the items left on my list!

So, I’ve got some big news!  Some of you will have already heard this, but for those of you haven’t … I am moving to Paris this fall for three months!  I am leaving my job, my boyfriend, and life as a I know it to pursue this long time dream.  My boyfriend will be here when I get back, unfortunately my job won’t be.  But, c’est la vie, I have no regrets.  I am pretty sure that my life will be changed forever in ways I don’t even know yet. I am excited and slightly terrified at the same time.  I have decided to keep a new blog while I am there, so I hope you will follow along.  I thought about using this blog, but I like the idea of having someplace unique to document my life in Paris.  I may post on The Style Project now and then, but for the most part you can find me here.  In addition to sharing all my adventures and mishaps in the city of light, I will, of course, be documenting my Parisian style! For any of you who have spent time in Paris, please leave me suggestions of your favorite haunts in the comments or email me at chloehelland {at} gmail.com.  XO

Here are a few more looks from the shoot I did with Caroline.  In addition to the floral story, we did a few simple looks that really showed off her beauty rather than the clothes (I do think the clothes looked pretty rad though, if I do say so myself!).  Hope everyone enjoyed their Wednesday.  Only two days until the weekend folks!
